FAQs
What is therapy?
Therapy, also known as psychotherapy or counseling, is a collaborative process between a therapist and a client. It provides a safe and confidential space for you to explore your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. The goal is to gain self-awareness, develop coping strategies, and make positive and lasting changes in your life.
How do I know if therapy is right for me?
Therapy can be beneficial for a wide range of concerns, from managing stress and anxiety to navigating major life transitions or improving relationships. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or simply want to better understand yourself, therapy can be a valuable tool. A good way to start is to schedule an initial consultation to see if we’re a good fit and to discuss your specific needs.
What should I expect in my first session?
The first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other. I’ll ask you about what brings you to therapy, your background, and your goals. It’s also a chance for you to ask me any questions you have about my approach and the process. The focus is on building a comfortable and trusting foundation for our work together.
How long does therapy last?
The length of therapy varies greatly from person to person. Some clients find that a few sessions are enough to address a specific issue, while others prefer to engage in longer-term work for deeper personal growth. As you make progress, we can discuss reducing the frequency of our meetings to every other week and potentially even monthly depending on your preferences, availability, and goals. We will regularly check in to assess your progress and determine the best course of action for you and tailor therapy to your needs.
How often will we meet?
Typically, sessions are held once a week, especially in the beginning, to build momentum and consistency. As you make progress, we can discuss reducing the frequency of our meetings based on your preference, goals, and availability.
Is what we discuss confidential?
Yes, confidentiality is a cornerstone of the therapeutic relationship. Everything we discuss is kept strictly private, with a few legal exceptions. These exceptions include situations where there is a risk of harm to yourself or others, or in cases of suspected child or elder abuse. My confidentiality policy will be sent to you prior to your first appointment to ensure you have a clear understanding and we can review any questions or concerns during our first session,
